  47. The main objective of this workshop is to show how the new generation of
  48. open hypermedia systems, such as Microcosm, can be used to build
  49. richly-resourced, multimedia learning environments. Participants will be
  50. introduced to authoring in Microcosm and shown how this environment is
  51. being used to create a campus-wide structure for multimedia learning.
  52. Examples of material developed as part of the project will be used as
  53. illustrations. Participants will also be shown how existing applications
  54. can be integrated into such an environment and linked to the multimedia
  55. material in the resource-base.

  85. About the organisers:
  86.  
  87. Wendy Hall is a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science at the University of
  88. Southampton. She is co-Director of the Image and Media research group at
  89. Southampton and also co-Director of the University's Teaching and
  90. Technology Learning (TLTP) Project. Her research interests include the
  91. development of hypermedia interfaces for multimedia information systems.
  92. She is a co-founder of the Microcosm project at Southampton. 
  93.  
  94. Hugh Davis is a Lecturer in Computer Science at the University of
  95. Southampton and was a founder member of the Microcosm project. He has been
  96. project manager for the past two years and in this capacity has worked
  97. closely with a number of projects that are using Microcosm as a basis for
  98. multimedia information system development. His research interests include
  99. the design and application of open hypermedia systems.

  101. Gerard Hutchings is a Researcher in Computer Science at the University of
  102. Southampton and is currently working on the TLTP Biodiversity Consortium
  103. Project on the development of multimedia information systems for use in the
  104. teaching of Biology. He has many years research experience in the
  105. development and evaluation of hypermedia systems.
